Trump and evangelical America

On Wednesday February 7, Matthew Sutton, WSU, talked about the history of American evangelicalism and Donald Trump’s popularity among certain segments of the U.S. population. Despite Trump’s past investments in the gambling industry and affairs with women, he still managed to gain over 81% of the evangelical vote.

Placing evangelical America’s relationship with politics into contest of the past 150 years, Sutton explained how President Trump appeals to evangelical sensibilities through his open support for anti-abortion laws, tightening LGBTQ rights, as well as his anti-Muslim and immigration sentiments.
