What is Wrong with Congress?

Former Congressmen Charles Djou and David Minge spoke at the Foley Institute on March 4th, 2014, about their views on the troubles that Congress as an institution faces. They both discussed numerous issues, such as the severe lack of bipartisanship, as well as the lengthy un-intuitive bills that get passed with hidden agendas.

The talk was both very casual and informative as the two Congressmen engaged the audience with stories of their time in Congress, while discussing issues that challenged the effectiveness of the House of Representatives. Charles Djou, former Hawaiian representative discussed his methods of deciding his votes on bills, while former representative David Minge discussed the difficulties he faced in attempting meaningful discussion with those of opposite parties.

Between the two former representatives and the audience’s questions, there was much meaningful discussion about the current state of congress, the issues it faces, and the possible solutions for both short and long term.
