Keeping it Civil: Encouraging rational discussion of climate change

On Earth Day environmental activist Alex Steffen discussed some of the issues that we are facing due to climate change. In the world today we facing the ever growing threat of climate change. This could mean that many issues including rising temperatures, lack of biodiversity, and depleted resources all around the world. In terms of carbon emissions and greenhouse gases there is only a certain amount that can be emitted that allows us to maintain a viable world. This budget on greenhouse gases is running out sooner than anyone expected and there are few proposed solutions.

In the United States there has been more publicity in going green and creating a sustainable environment. Unfortunately, these efforts are being marketed in ways that do not actually promote efficiency throughout the world. Currently millions are people are not living to sustain one earth but many. The budget issues the Steffen discussed need to cause dramatic changes that are not as simple as recycling or riding a bike to work.

The need to address and repair what we as humans have done to the environment needs to be changed large scale. Also part of the problem is looking at the issue and accepting it as a society.
