Hong Kong: Behind the Protests and Beyond

 

On October 14, 2014, visiting associate professor at the University of Hong Kong, Alejandro Reyes, spoke about democratic protesters in Hong Kong. Reyes expressed his opinion that the protest group, Occupy Central with Peace and Love, is disorganized and lacks central leadership. This, combined with the “incompetent” Chinese government, makes Reyes doubtful that a significant change will occur to Hong Kong representation.  Reyes believes the Occupy movement should focus more on policy issues, rather than electoral issues, in order to invoke significant social change.
